Tutors International Announce Increase in Pupils’ Call for Real-World Scenarios in Private Tutoring

Private tuition agency, Tutors International, report an increase in enquiries for broader education home-schooling amid CBI and UK students’ calls for more practical skills to be taught in schools that emulate real-world scenarios.

Tutors International, one of the world’s leading private home-school tutor agencies, today announced its support of a report recently released from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), which states that some UK schools have become "exam factories" and calls for children to be given a broader education.

Tutors International, known in the education industry for placing only high calibre private tutors with families across the globe, reported that they have employed more real-world scenarios as part of home-schooling, at the request of students and their parents.

It’s not just full-time private tuition that has the means to provide this practical application, although the one-to-one nature of the learning environment certainly helps, claims Senior Partner, Adam Caller. There are many requests from families to hire after-school private tutors to provide a broader education than that received in school. Private home tuition allows more real-world scenarios to be incorporated.

Mr Caller commented, “Either schools need to focus on a few subjects in depth, or provide a broader education more superficially. Most don’t have the resources or time to do both. We’ve found that our private tutors are in a unique position of having both time and resources to educate a child in precisely the way the client wishes. But we can provide this service to the lucky few. The UK Government has to find a way to provide the best level of education for the majority.”

The CBI report claims that there is too much focus on exams at 16 and that that focus should be switched to exams at 18, with more emphasis on the skills people need for life and work. Students themselves tend to agree, calling for more real-world, practical application of maths, for example.

“If private industry is left to pick up the pieces of a failed education, we should listen to them,” concluded Mr Caller. “More vocational courses, apprenticeships, and practical skills are needed, and those who want to take exams and try to get into university should be supported in doing so. We should move away from this culture of mediocrity that tries to push everyone into university, and by doing so, dumbing down academic standards.”
