It takes around nine months to identify, vet and secure the perfect private tutor.
If you’d like a tutor in place for September 2026, speak to us now so we can plan this autumn and launch recruitment in January. That window gives you access to the strongest candidates, proper due diligence, and the confidence that the tutor is the perfect fit for your child and your family's lifestyle.
Why the nine-month window?
- Due diligence takes time. Our process includes targeted headhunting, multi-stage interviews, enhanced identity and security checks, verified references and employment history, lesson observations where appropriate, and external international background screening. Read more about recruiting the perfect tutor.
- Teachers must give a full term’s notice. For a September start, many teachers must resign in late spring, so short timelines constrain who is genuinely available.
- Elite tutors are in demand. The best educators commit early, so waiting risks finding that the ideal candidates are already engaged elsewhere.
- Family fit needs space. We want you to meet finalists properly, ideally in your home, to see how the chemistry feels.
“Finding the right tutor is meticulous work. Availability is limited at the top end, regardless of the package on offer. Planning ahead means we have the best chance of finding the perfect tutor for your family.”
— Adam Caller, Founder, Tutors International
Common questions from parents
Can you help if we’re late to this? We will always try. Occasionally, a finalist from one search is a strong match for a new role. That said, we never compromise on suitability. Starting now simply gives you more and better options.
What about summer recruitment? Schools close, referees travel, and verifications slow down. It can be done, but it is harder to secure the same depth of due diligence over July and August.
Our plans might change, should we still get in touch? Yes. Many families speak to us while weighing options like a school change, relocation or a curriculum shift. Early conversations cost nothing and help you plan sensibly.
How thorough is your vetting? Extremely. Beyond interviews and reference checks, we commission independent international background screening, confirm identity and right to work, verify qualifications and employment history, and assess pedagogical approach. We then focus on personality fit and family culture, so the tutor complements your lifestyle and values.
Our needs are complex. Will you still be able to help? Very likely. We design roles around the child, not around a pre-existing “bank” of tutors. If your brief needs bilingual teaching, IB to US transitions, travel at short notice or SEN expertise, we recruit to that profile.
What to do now
-
Start the conversation this autumn. A short call clarifies goals, timelines and feasibility.
-
Agree the brief by December. That lets us open recruitment in January 2026 for a September 2026 start.
-
Meet candidates in spring. Take the time to see teaching in action and to test the all-important fit.
Tutors International was founded on the idea that bespoke means bespoke. We do not keep a roster waiting on the shelf, we headhunt to your specification, then we verify carefully and choose together. When families allow longer for recruitment, the results speak for themselves.
