We’ve received five enquiries in the past week from families in Dubai who are considering relocating to their other homes within the next two weeks because they fear renewed bombing.
Families are exploring moves to destinations including London and Ibiza, but some have yet to decide where they will go or how long they will stay. They want a tutor who can keep their children learning through the move, potentially at very short notice.
We encourage parents in Dubai and across the UAE to get in touch as early as possible, even if their plans are still taking shape. We also advise families to consider whether a longer-term, full-time tutor could provide greater continuity through further moves and an eventual return home.
Adam Caller, founder and CEO of Tutors International, says:
“When you’re deciding whether to move your family, it is understandable that you can’t always give us a settled destination or an end date. Please still contact us. We can talk through what your children need and be clear about what may be possible within the time available.”
Can a tutor be recruited before the family leaves?
Finding the right tutor for a short placement becomes harder when the location, duration and travel requirements are unknown. Candidates need enough information to understand the commitment, while the family needs someone with the right teaching experience and personal qualities for their children.
An urgent departure can leave very little time for that process. Caller said:
“A tutor available immediately may not be the right person for your child. And a very short contract with an uncertain destination can limit the candidates able to consider it. We will, of course, explore what we can do, but we need to be realistic about recruitment and timing.”
Parents do not need to wait until every travel decision is made before making an enquiry. Sharing their children’s ages, curriculum, subjects and any approaching examinations, alongside likely destinations and departure dates, gives us a starting point.
A longer-term tutor can provide continuity across homes
For families expecting to move between countries, a full-time tutor appointed for a longer period may offer a more workable arrangement.
The tutor can provide an agreed educational programme wherever the family is living and, subject to the necessary travel and employment arrangements, accompany them between the UAE and their other homes. If the children return to school, the role may develop into support alongside their classroom education.
This gives children a teacher who knows their progress and can maintain continuity as the family’s circumstances change. It also allows parents to plan beyond the immediate departure. Caller said:
“If a family is going to leave Dubai, spend time elsewhere and then return, we encourage them to plan for continuity in their children’s education across that whole period. A longer-term appointment allows the same tutor to support the children as circumstances change, maintaining their progress wherever the family is living.”
An opportunity to address wider educational needs
A full-time tutor can also help with concerns that predate a possible move, whether a child needs to recover missed learning, rebuild confidence or work at a more challenging pace.
In our recent article, Dubai’s New Private Schools and the Case for Full-Time Private Tutoring, we explored how rapid school expansion and teacher turnover may affect consistency. For families already questioning their child’s school experience, a longer-term tutoring arrangement offers time to assess their needs and plan their next steps.
We welcome enquiries from families across all emirates, whether they intend to remain in the UAE, relocate temporarily or divide their time between homes.
Families considering a move in the coming weeks should contact Tutors International as soon as possible to discuss their children’s needs and what may be achievable within their timeframe.
