Tutors International issue advice for UK students applying to US colleges on how to get into Ivy League universities and avoid college waiting lists.
Private tuition may be the way into America’s Ivy League colleges, says Tutors International. The company, who have been placing full-time private tutors with clients around the world since 1999, have recently expanded their services to provide SAT tuition and college application support to UK-based students who want to attend a US university.
Adam Caller, education consultant and founder of Tutors International, explains why private tutors can help students get into the college of their dreams and avoid the desperate antics of those stuck on college waiting lists:
1. A private SAT tutor can raise scores by 400 points
A high SAT score is a key pre-requisite to being considered by any top US college. Harvard, for example, typically look for a minimum SAT score of 2150. When SAT students find their scores are not as high as they need, many look for help from a specialist SAT private tutor.
SAT tutors can usually start tuition almost immediately, and with intensive tuition, are known to turn around scores from mediocre to well over 2000 in just a few weeks. Be sure to ask an SAT tutor for examples of previous students' results and success stories.
2. Colleges often like home-schooled students’ personalities
In the battle to stand out from the crowd – The Harvard class of 2017 has just a 5.8% acceptance rate, with more than 35,000 students applying for places – individuality is crucial.
Home-educated students are currently the minority, but they have a high success rate in gaining acceptance at top colleges, where the admissions panel welcome their maturity, studiousness and outlook.
3. A private tutor can help a student find their niche
Ivy League admissions staff are looking for excellence in an applicant. Students that have full-time home tutors from an early age are often encouraged to push themselves further and into new areas. Obscure foreign languages or thoughtful and well-developed skills in film direction can eclipse run-of-the-mill captainships or charity work.
When it comes to applying to university, a SAT tutor can assist with the application process, providing support and guidance in essay writing and with inside knowledge of US colleges, helping the student to apply to those that best suit their personality and unique skills, and therefore increase their chances of a successful application.
